France publishes nationwide fuel prices through prix-carburants.gouv.fr. Hypermarket fuel stations (Leclerc, Carrefour, Intermarché, Auchan) are usually the cheapest option, often 5–15 cents below branded networks.
Taxes
TICPE excise duty plus 20% TVA. Total taxes typically represent 55–60% of the pump price for Euro 95 and SP95-E10.
When prices dip
Hypermarket prices are usually adjusted Tuesday or Wednesday and tend to be lowest mid-week.
Tips
- SP95-E10 (10% ethanol) is normally 3–6 cents cheaper than SP95 and accepted by most modern petrol cars.
- Avoid motorway service areas — autoroute prices are €0.15–0.25/L higher than nearby towns.
- Cross-check Belgian and Luxembourg border stations for diesel.
