Fuel prices in Greece(estimates)

Greek pump prices are tracked by the Παρατηρητήριο Τιμών Υγρών Καυσίμων. Island prices are noticeably higher than the mainland due to transport costs.

Taxes

Ειδικός Φόρος Κατανάλωσης (EFK) plus 24% ΦΠΑ. Greece has one of the highest excise burdens on petrol in the EU.

When prices dip

Prices are relatively stable week-to-week; check before national holidays when demand spikes.

Tips

• Avoid refuelling on islands when possible — mainland prices can be 15–20 cents cheaper.
• Athens and Thessaloniki suburbs are normally cheaper than central districts.
• Heating oil (πετρέλαιο θέρμανσης) is taxed differently — never confuse it with road diesel.
